Armenian PM’s associate accuses priests of dragging country into war
REGION 30 April 2024 - 17:31
Artur Hovhannisyan, the secretary of the faction of Armenia's ruling Civil Contract Party, has raised concerns about the involvement of priests in what he perceives as efforts to instigate conflict in the region.
Hovhannisyan expressed his apprehension as he talked to journalists, stating that he views the participation of priests in certain processes as detrimental to Armenia's statehood, Caliber.Az reports.
"They are trying to drag Armenia into the war to invite saviors and turn it into a place of service for third countries again," Hovhannisyan noted.
He further highlighted the recent tensions surrounding four Azerbaijani villages, which he believes could serve as a pretext for a legitimate attack on Armenia by Azerbaijan.
The parliamentarian emphasized the risks involved, particularly in light of Armenia's recent experiences in the Karabakh conflict. He suggested that Armenia's involvement in military actions related to the four villages could have severe consequences. In response to inquiries about guarantees of peace following the demarcation and delimitation process, Hovhannisyan acknowledged that there are no absolute assurances but stressed the importance of reducing the risks of escalation and firmly establishing Armenia's state borders to prevent legitimate attacks.
