Ireland hails Azerbaijan's progress in transport sector

Irish Minister of State for Transport Jack Chambers has said that the Republic of Ireland welcomes the progress made by Azerbaijan in the transport sector in recent years.

He made the remarks on the sidelines of the International Transport Forum (ITF) in Leipzig, Germany, Trend reports.

"We welcome the progress that has been made in transport in Azerbaijan and several other countries over the past few years," Chambers said.

He said the world is now in need of more collective leadership, agreements at the intergovernmental level.

"The COP conferences have achieved a lot in this direction, there is still a need to work on the challenges at hand, especially in areas such as climate funding and accelerating investment to reduce emissions in transport systems," the minister emphasised.

Speaking about the upcoming COP29 conference in Baku, Chambers noted that the tangible impacts of climate change are evident, emphasising how meaningful solutions are needed within the SOR framework.

"We need further concrete actions arising from some kind of common document to be adopted. We need to bring everyone to the table and formulate a text that will lead to practical results, including the participation of fossil fuel producing countries, as they have a crucial role to play," the minister added, emphasising that countries need to focus on consensus and effective action rather than labelling traditional fuel producers.
