Armenian media: Time not in favor of Armenia
REGION 16 May 2022 - 18:04
The Armenian authorities face a difficult task to avoid the signing of a document that is unfavorable for them by avoiding the resumption of the war.
“The Russian, Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers held bilateral and then trilateral meetings in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on May 13. According to the official statement, the issues of establishing a demarcation and delimitation commission were discussed,” Caliber.Az reports referring to Editor-in-chief of the Armenian Aravot daily newspaper Aram Abrahamyan’s article entitled “Again from my own point of view”?
According to the article, before the meetings in Dushanbe, Assistant of the Azerbaijani president, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev met with Secretary of the Armenian Security Council Armen Grigoryan.
“Grigoryan has stressed that Armenia added its six points to five well-known Azerbaijani points, which include security issues for the Armenians of Karabakh region. However, the Azerbaijani media outlets emphasize that such issues were not discussed with Hajiyev as they are Azerbaijan’s internal affair,” Abrahamyan added.
Abrahamyan writes that as for the demarcation and delimitation of the state border, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov said that the subject of negotiations is to transfer seven villages of the Gazakh District, as well as Karki village, to Azerbaijan.
“These are the demands put forward by the Azerbaijani side during the meeting in Dushanbe,” editor-in-chief said.
Abrahamyan has no idea about Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan’s answer to the demands of the Azerbaijani side.
“Presently, the Armenian authorities face a difficult task to avoid the signing of an unfavorable document while avoiding the resumption of the war. This will be extremely difficult to do, especially given the de facto dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group amid the conflict between Russia and the West,” editor-in-chief said.
“Time is not in our favor. Russia is weakening because of its mad war in Ukraine. The US and EU are far from the region both geographically and politically. According to the Russian proverb "God is too high from here and the Tzar is too far to hear",” Abrahamyan said.
“What about the opposition rally? The opposition says that let's change the power, and then we will start negotiations from the "zero point" or "from our own point of view". In practice, without realizing it, the opposition is trying to take on the burden of final humiliation,” editor-in-chief said.
Abrahamyan said that the reason is unclear.
“First, the conditions offered only to those who have come to power are likely to be worse for the abovementioned reasons. Secondly, according to last year's data, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has 680,000 supporters. I think that they will support any step of the prime minister. No one has so many supporters. So let them fully enjoy the results of their choice,” editor-in-chief said.
