The architects have celebrated the 100th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s first honoured female architect Shafiga Zeynalova.
Zeynalova was born in June 1922, she became the first Azerbaijani who graduated from the Moscow Institute of Architecture, according to Caliber.Az.
She worked at the Azerbaijan State Design Institute.
Zeynalova was one of Azerbaijan’s exemplary architects in the 1950-1970s. During her activity, she used the style known as "Soviet modernism".
Among the projects implemented by Zeynalova are the new high-rise building of the Baku railway station (1974), the Baksovet (now Icheri Sheher) metro station (1967), the 17-storey Orgtekhstroy building (now the building of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population) in front of the Nizami metro station ( 1966-1974), the unique building of the Party Archive and the Historical Institute of the Communist Party (1972), the building of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic (SSR) (the 1950s, now the building of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry), etc.
Zeynalova died in May 1979 at the age of 56, leaving a huge architectural and creative heritage for Azerbaijan, namely, buildings and projects covering the traditions of Azerbaijani national architecture.
