Azerbaijan marks fourth anniversary of Hadrut's liberation from Armenian occupation
Today, on October 9, Azerbaijan marks the fourth anniversary of the liberation of Hadrut town in the Khojavend district from Armenian occupation.
On October 9, 2020, the town of Hadrut, along with several nearby villages, was liberated from enemy control during the Azerbaijani Army’s counter-offensive, which began on September 27, 2020, Caliber.Az reports.
The liberation of Hadrut was a pivotal moment that determined the outcome of the war. After securing Hadrut, the Azerbaijani Army set its sights on Shusha. The battles for Hadrut played a significant role in the eventual liberation of Shusha, as enemy forces were expecting the Azerbaijani military to approach from a different direction.
Starting on October 7, intense fighting ensued, and by October 9, the Azerbaijani Army had taken control of strategically important villages and heights near Hadrut. On the same day, the villages of Chayli, Yukhari Guzlak, Gorazilli, Gyshlag, Garajalli, Afandilar, Suleymanli, and Sur were also liberated.
On March 16, 2021, President Ilham Aliyev, the victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, raised the national flag in the town of Hadrut.
