Hamas political bureau chief’s death - moment of justice US leader says
US President Joe Biden has referred to the death of Hamas political bureau chief Yahya Sinwar as a "moment of justice".
He made this statement during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"The death of the Hamas leader is a moment of justice. He was guilty of the death of Americans, Israelis, Palestinians, Germans, and many others," Biden stated.
"I told the Israeli prime minister yesterday: let's seize this moment to find a path to peace and a better future for Gaza without Hamas," he added.
The US leader added that Sinwar was an "insurmountable obstacle" to achieving these goals. "Now there is no obstacle. But there is still much work for us to do," Biden noted.
US Vice President Kamala Harris stated that Sinwar's killing "provides an opportunity to finally put an end to the war in Gaza."
"The war must end in a way that ensures Israel's safety, releases the hostages, stops the suffering in Gaza, and allows the Palestinian people to realize their rights to dignity, safety, freedom, and self-determination," Harris said.
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, during a briefing, described Sinwar as a "significant obstacle" to reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and securing the release of hostages.
"The elimination of Sinwar from the battlefield indeed creates an opportunity to find a path forward that brings the hostages home," Sullivan added.
