Switzerland may decommission 25 Leopard 2 tanks for Germany resale

The Swiss Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) has stated that the Swiss government supports the proposal to decommission 25 Leopard 2 tanks, which creates conditions for their resale to Germany.

"The Federal Council supports the proposal of the National Council's Security Policy Commission (SiK-N) to decommission 25 Leopard 2 main battle tanks," Gazeta.Ru quotes the ministry as saying on its website.

According to the ministry, the tanks should only be decommissioned if they are resold to a German manufacturer.

It also said that if both chambers of the Swiss parliament approved the proposal to decommission the tanks, the government would instruct the Ministry of Economic Affairs to assess the relevant export declaration and "submit it for decision".
