Ombudsman: Azerbaijani people still dying from mines planted by Armenia

    SOCIETY  01 October 2022 - 17:56

Azerbaijani ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva has appealed to international organisations in connection with the death and injury of Azerbaijani citizens as a result of mine explosions in the Fuzuli and Tartar districts and called on them to take immediate actions.

Despite the numerous calls to Armenia, accurate mine maps in the territories liberated from occupation have not yet been transferred to Azerbaijan, therefore, there is still a big threat to the life and health of both military personnel and civilians, Report informs referring to the ombudsman’s statement.

“We reiterate our concern that unmarked mines are a potential source of danger to human life and call for taking immediate actions in this regard. Armenia must hand over accurate maps of minefields in accordance with the norms of international humanitarian law, in terms of respect for human rights by fulfilling its obligations to ensure sustainable peace and security in the region,” the statement said.

Two mine incidents have occurred in Azerbaijan over the past two days. Two people were killed and two were severely injured as a result of mine explosions in Fuzuli and Tartar.
