Two years pass since liberation of Lachin from Armenian occupation

Two years have passed since the liberation of the Lachin district from the Armenian occupation.

Lachin district was occupied by Armenia on May 18, 1992. As a result of the Armenian occupation, more than 300 military and civilians were killed, 65 were taken hostages, 103 Lachin residents became disabled, 18 children from 1 to 16 years old out of 24,374 children living in the area were killed, 225 became disabled, 31 - lost both parents. As a result of the occupation, 63,340 citizens of Azerbaijan became internally displaced persons. There were 133 large and medium enterprises, 217 cultural centers, about 40 cultural and historical monuments, and dozens of schools in the occupied territory.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, conveying congratulations to the Azerbaijani people on the occasion of the liberation of the Lachin district from the occupation, said: “It is with great joy that I inform you that Lachin district has been liberated from occupation. I cordially congratulate all the people of Azerbaijan on this occasion. The liberation of Lachin district from occupation is a historic event. Moreover, we have returned Lachin district without firing a single shot. We have forced the enemy to do this. The bright victory won on the battlefield has led to this remarkable result – three of our districts, Aghdam, Kalbajar and Lachin, have been returned to us. We have returned these districts without firing a single shot and without a single martyr.”

After Armenia capitulated in the 44-day war and signed a trilateral statement on November 10, the Armenian side pledged to return the Aghdam, Kalbajar, and Lachin districts to Azerbaijan.
