Professor Khachikian: West will not back Armenia in case of military escalation
REGION 01 February 2024 - 16:55
The West has made it clear that it will not help Armenia in case of an armed escalation, according to Arthur Khachikian, a doctor of political science at US Stanford University.
"Regarding the statements that arms deliveries from Russia have started, I will say that it is good that the process has started, but the issue is not only about military equipment deliveries. We should all realize that we are in a full-scale war in the Middle East, there is a full-scale regional war going on," Khachikian said in an interview with Armenian media Caliber.Az reports.
"If there is a serious war, will they be next to us those who give us this military equipment? Here we should talk about real things, not words. The fact that you can get guns or howitzers from India is not bad, but will India really come and be on our side if we face major powers like Türkiye and Azerbaijan? Of course not. Is it claimed that France or the US will come?
If you look at Western sources, does it say that they will provide military assistance to Armenia against the West's ally Türkiye? The US says that Türkiye is the most important ally for us in the Middle East. What the West says are just ordinary words, sweet words that Armenians have been deceived with for 150 years. They don't say what they will do. Iran says what they will do if there is an attack on Armenia, that this could be a reason for them to go to war, but this too cannot be believed 100 per cent.
The representative of the State Department was asked what you would do if Azerbaijan entered Syunik (Zangezur - ed.), he just kept silent. You know, Americans, French, Europeans, they are more honest than Armenians who take money from Americans and French and deceive us here. The West says that they will provide moral assistance. Even Macron himself said in one of his interviews that it will be humanitarian aid," the professor said.
