Azerbaijani exhibition "Shusha: Dance of Symbols" unveils digital art marvels

In a captivating fusion of tradition and technology, the Azerbaijani exhibition "Shusha: Dance of Symbols" has been unveiled to art enthusiasts in Italy.

Organized by the digital art group Mezo Art in collaboration with the Italian cultural centre MEET and the Cariplo Foundation, the exhibition showcases a mesmerizing array of digital artworks,  Caliber.Az reports citing Azertag.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition witnessed esteemed speakers Maria Grazia Mattei, founder of the MEET cultural centre, and Julie Walsh, a renowned Chicago curator specializing in contemporary art of Asian countries. They emphasized the transformative journey the exhibition offers, digitizing Azerbaijan's rich cultural heritage and providing a unique experience for art lovers. Additionally, they announced the upcoming Istanbul Digital Arts Festival in May, hinting at further explorations of digital artistry.

Nabat Garakhanova, the mastermind behind the artificial intelligence project "Shusha," offered insights into its creation. She elaborated on how the project transcends mere technological innovation, serving as a conduit for Azerbaijan's historical and cultural legacy. By digitizing traditional Azerbaijani art forms and echoing the cultural exchanges along the Silk Road, the exhibition bridges the past with the future, ensuring the preservation and transmission of Azerbaijan's artistic heritage to forthcoming generations.

The event drew a diverse audience, including representatives from the Azerbaijani Embassy in Italy, the Turkish Consulate General in Milan, as well as figures from Italy's cultural and academic circles, media professionals, and Azerbaijani expatriates. Their presence underscored the significance of cultural exchange and collaboration in fostering mutual understanding and appreciation.

Featuring digital artworks generated by the AI project "Shusha," the exhibition celebrates Azerbaijan's cultural tapestry, with a particular focus on kelaghayi adorned with national motifs. Notably, the project was a collaborative effort between Azerbaijani and Turkish artists and engineers from the Mezo Art Digital Art Group, led by Nabat Garakhanova. Their shared vision aimed to revitalize the ancient art of Shusha, a symbolic bastion of Azerbaijani culture, using cutting-edge technologies.

The exhibition, set to run until March 9, invites visitors to immerse themselves in a captivating fusion of tradition and innovation, offering a glimpse into Azerbaijan's vibrant cultural landscape through the lens of digital artistry.
