Azerbaijan schedules to resettle over 5,000 families to liberated territories

Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov has said that the country schedules to resettle 5, 171 families to the liberated territories of Azerbaijan by the end of 2024.

Presenting a report on the activities of the Cabinet of Ministers in 2023 at the plenary session of Milli Majlis on March 15, Asadov said that 1,186 families (4,691 people) of former IDPs returned to the territories liberated from occupation last year, Report informs.

The prime minister noted that 34.5 thousand families (140 thousand people) will be able to return to their native land by 2026 under the Great Return Program.

The government of Azerbaijan has been implementing the "Great Return" programme to relocate former IDPs to the liberated lands of the country.

Since July 2021, hundreds of people returned to their homes in the Zangilan, Tartar, Lachin, and Fuzuli districts.

As a result of the brilliant victory of the Azerbaijani army in the Patriotic War under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the former IDPs have an opportunity to return to their homeland voluntarily, safely and honourably after 30 years.

According to a decree signed in November 2022 by President Aliyev approving the "First State program on the Great Return to Azerbaijan's liberated territories”, a total of 280,000 hectares (692,000 acres) of lands in the Karabakh and East Zangazur regions will be readied for resettlement by 2026.

By 2026, a total of 34,500 families will be relocated to the Karabakh and East Zangazur regions. To accommodate them, 34,500 apartments and private houses will be built by 2026.
