MFA: Russia exerts many efforts to resolve Azerbaijan-Armenia relations

Spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova has said that Russia did its best to normalise relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Zakharova made these remarks at the briefing while answering a question, according to Report.

“Russia, as an honest mediator, did its best to resolve relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” she said.

Moreover, Zakharova noted that the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed the ineffectiveness of the EU's contribution to the normalisation of the relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

“Every day we are more convinced that there is no positive contribution from the EU to the normalisation of relations between Baku and Yerevan. On the contrary, the EU representatives are engaged in various provocations, intelligence activity and propaganda. Of course, the regional countries are dissatisfied because any issues arising in the South Caucasus must be resolved within the region and in the interests of all countries located here without destructive interference from outside,” she noted.

Zakharova noted that the EU and NATO do not intend to render real assistance to Azerbaijan and Armenia to normalise the ties.

“The West continues militarising the South Caucasus, turning it into another arena of geopolitical rivalry, ignoring the interests of local residents and, in fact, putting an end to the implementation of the further tasks of peaceful development of the region,” she added.
