Armenian PM announces withdrawal of Russian border guards from Tavush

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has announced the withdrawal of Russian border guards from Armenia's Tavush region.

Pashinyan told journalists that Russian border guards were stationed in Tavush, indicating a significant shift in the situation, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the presence of Russian border guards in Tavush was a result of different circumstances, which have now undergone significant changes. He emphasized that this change should impact all areas, signifying a transition from a frontline to a border.

In his remarks, Pashinyan emphasized the symbolic importance of having a border, viewing it as a symbol of peace. He stated that Armenian and Azerbaijani border guards would collaborate to ensure the protection of the border, indicating a shift towards cooperation between the two nations.

Responding to a question seeking clarification on whether his statements indicated the withdrawal of border guards, Pashinyan affirmed the fact.

The prime minister stressed the importance of promptly deploying Armenian border guards in the Tavush region, emphasizing the historic significance of the moment. He expressed optimism about the potential for positive developments, including the possibility of seeing signs indicating the borders between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan along the roads.
