Armenian church accused of plotting disintegration
REGION 30 April 2024 - 10:44
In a startling accusation, Hayk Sukiasyan, vice-chairman of the Armenian Christian Democratic Party, has alleged that the Armenian Church is actively working towards the disintegration of Armenia.
Speaking to local media, Sukiasyan asserted that certain clergy members, influenced by Russian special services, are orchestrating actions aimed at destabilizing the country, Caliber.Az reports.
"The agenda of the opposition and the majority of those holding protests these days is the collapse of the statehood of the Republic of Armenia," Sukiasyan stated. He further claimed that these individuals, despite advocating for freedom, are actually serving the interests of Russian President Vladimir Putin, seeking to hand over Armenia to foreign powers.
Sukiasyan went on to accuse the church leadership of being disconnected from the Armenian people and aligned with Russian national interests. He urged Armenian authorities, particularly the National Security Service, to investigate the clergy involved in these activities.
"It is clear who these people are, it is also clear that Russian special services have occupied our church," Sukiasyan asserted. He demanded that the church return to serving the spiritual needs of the Armenian people rather than engaging in political maneuvers.
According to him, the action is simultaneously angering thousands of citizens because their right to free movement is being violated. "The collective majority of our people want a state, now there is a part that is against it, which is the enemy of the legitimate citizen of Armenia. People want to go about their business in peace, meaning these people are also spoiling people's daily lives. This is the eternal mentally ill part of Armenian life, which has nothing to do with us, so the state should respect itself, should not be afraid to use legal force in individual cases," Sukiasyan added.
