Türkiye deciding on contractor for Sinop Nuclear Power Plant

Rosatom is strongly positioned to win the contract for Türkiye's second nuclear power plant in Sinop, given its competitive edge, TASS reports quoting Pavel Zavalny, head of Russia's State Duma energy committee.

Zavalny, currently in Türkiye with an inter-parliamentary delegation, expressed confidence in Rosatom's capabilities during discussions about Türkiye's plans to construct additional nuclear facilities.

"Yes, Türkiye is planning to build two more large nuclear power plants. The Russian side is eager to participate in the Sinop project," Zavalny stated. "Rosatom holds significant advantages, including its experience with the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, state-of-the-art reactor technology, and a commitment to 100% localization of production between Russia and Türkiye. Cost-effectiveness is also a key factor."

While noting that Türkiye's Ministry of Energy is evaluating proposals from other countries, including Korea and China, Zavalny indicated that Rosatom's proposal stands out due to its joint financing approach, which involves project financing, joint investment attraction, and collaboration with a Turkish general contractor.

"The decision-making process is ongoing, but I am confident, about 90%, that the Russian proposal will be selected," Zavalny concluded.
