Ambassador: UK allocated additional £500,000 for demining operations in Azerbaijan

"I am pleased to announce that the UK government has allocated an additional £500,000 to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to support demining operations in the region."

According to Caliber.Az, British Ambassador to Azerbaijan James Sharp made the announcement on Twitter.

He noted that the region is one of the most polluted by mines and UXOs in the world: "Most importantly, the latest funding will provide ANAMA with essential training and expert advice to help secure the area, prevent injuries and save lives. To date, the UK has allocated more than £1 million to demining the region. Our embassy here also supports the women, peace and security agenda. And we believe our support will also focus on the gender aspects of mine action in Azerbaijan, including helping to establish a women's mine action team in the near future."
