Cyprus president says sanctions against Russia negatively affect tourism

    WORLD  02 July 2022 - 20:33

The sanctions imposed against Russia hit the tourism industry of Cyprus, as well as affected the banking activities and export services said the president of the country Nicos Anastasiades.

He specified that the authorities expect to cope with the problems in the country through prudent financial and economic management, Russian newspaper "Kommersant" reports.

Mr. Anastasiades raised the issue during his speech to foreign investors at the Cyprus International Investments Awards, held on July 1. He said that the coronavirus pandemic and military actions in Ukraine have led to negative social and economic consequences.

"At the same time, the sanctions that we imposed at the European level against Russia have also had a negative impact on economic activity on the island, especially tourism, banking, and export of services, given our ties with Russia in these areas," the Cypriot president added.
