Azerbaijan advancing towards COP29 by leaps & bounds
Azerbaijan will play host to the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) on November 11-24, 2024.
The decision was made at the plenary session of COP28 in the UAE on December 11.
Addressing the COP28, Azerbaijani Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev, who is also now COP29 President, said that “the challenges we are facing demand collective action and dedication to the commonly agreed objectives and aspirations. Azerbaijan understands the critical importance of collaborative efforts to combat climate change”.
Azerbaijan confirmed the commitment to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by 35 percent by 2030 and increase this target by 40 percent by 2050. Fulfilling the commitments under the Paris Agreement adopted in 2015 and actively working in this regard are priority issues for the Azerbaijani government.
The Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has been held annually since 1995. The event aims to assess the progress in combatting climate change in the world.
