Baltic States withdrawing from Russian power grid
On August 3, the heads of government of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania signed a joint declaration on early withdrawal from the Russian electricity grid no later than the beginning of 2025.
“Prime Ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania Kaja Kallas, Krisjanis Karins and Ingrida Simonyte signed a joint declaration on Thursday on early withdrawal from the Russian power grid no later than the beginning of 2025,” Gazeta.ru reports, referring to the press service of the Estonian government.
It is noted that earlier it was about the exit by the end of 2025.
It also notes that the declaration was supplemented by an agreement between the system administrators of the Baltic countries.
Kallas noted that the Baltic countries want to gain independence from Russian energy in order to strengthen energy security in the region. She added that in recent months, the Baltic countries have been looking for ways to speed up the connection to the mainland European system.
