Intel's component shipments for laptops, desktops grow by 11%
Intel's preliminary quarterly report revealed a nine per cent year-over-year increase in revenue for the client segment, reaching $7.4 billion.
However, the 10-Q filing showed the changes in revenue structure, Caliber.Az reports citing the news website about high technologies.
Intel's component shipments for desktop PCs and laptops grew by 11 per cent. The average selling price for desktop PC components decreased by four per cent, while for laptop components, it increased by four per cent.
In the laptop component segment, Intel's revenue increased by 15 per cent year-over-year in the second quarter, reaching $4.5 billion. In fact, over 60 per cent of Intel's revenue in the client segment came from laptop components. The desktop segment contributed about 34 per cent to the client division's revenue in the second quarter, with the remaining five per cent coming from other types of components.
In the desktop segment, Intel's revenue increased by 4.2 per cent to $2.5 billion last quarter. Similar to the laptop segment, the number of desktop components shipped grew by 11 per cent year-over-year, but the average selling price dropped by four per cent. The company notes that this decline in average price is primarily due to a high concentration of older generation products in the mix of desktop components sold.
The company is still dealing with the effects of inventory buildup caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, though the situation is improving. In the mobile segment, the presence of older-generation processors also posed challenges for Intel. However, this issue was offset by shipments of new products manufactured using Intel 4 technology and a lower concentration of models with fewer cores, which are objectively cheaper.
By the end of the second quarter, the average selling price of Intel’s mobile components increased by four per cent year-over-year. Looking at the first half of the year, shipments of Intel components for laptops grew by 24 per cent, while the average selling price rose by two per cent. In the desktop segment, shipments increased by 19 per cent, as clients more actively cleared out their inventories of older products in the preceding months, but the average selling price remained unchanged compared to the first half of 2023.
