Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has responded to questions about a possible visit by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to Russia for the 80th anniversary celebration of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, scheduled for May 9, 2025.
During a briefing with media representatives, Peskov affirmed that Moscow would warmly welcome all guests attending this significant event, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“We will be delighted to see everyone who comes to commemorate this very important anniversary,” Peskov stated.
When asked if an invitation would be extended to Fico, Peskov confirmed, saying, “Yes, there will be one. We will inform [him].”
To recall, previously, Fico had expressed enthusiasm about attending, saying he would be “honoured” to receive an invitation to the event.
Additionally, Fico emphasized his readiness for dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin, noting his extensive history of interactions with the Russian leader.
“I have met with President Putin multiple times, even back when he was prime minister, before he became president. Should the need arise, I am prepared to speak with President Putin without hesitation,” Fico said.
This upcoming anniversary of the end of World War II is expected to attract international attention, with Moscow preparing to host global leaders and guests in 2025 to mark the occasion.
