Russia blames current German policy for growing aggression
Spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova has said that current German authorities betray their own people and undermine efforts to rebuild relations with Russia.
Zakharova made these remarks at the 10th All-Russian Youth Educational Forum "Territory of Meanings," hosted by the Russian Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh), Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
"Russia succeeded in rebooting its relationship with Germany," Zakharova noted, recalling the countless sacrifices made during the Great Patriotic War. "It was incredibly challenging, almost impossible, but we managed to achieve it. And now, these German authorities have the audacity to criticize and even accuse us, and worse, to take actions against us by supplying tanks and weapons to the terrorist and extremist Kyiv regime. Such betrayal, such treachery, and such dehumanization will never go unpunished."
She reminded that the development of mutually beneficial Russian-German cooperation "has traditionally provoked aggression from rivals" who have relentlessly opposed it out of hatred for both Russia and Germany.
"While previous German authorities made some effort, either deeply or superficially, to maintain this established interaction, the current ones have completely lost their way," she observed. "But they are not doing this primarily against us; they are doing it against their own people."
In this context, the diplomat highlighted recent efforts in Germany, including by members of the country’s leadership, to whitewash the Nazis who stained themselves with the blood of innocent victims during World War II. She cited as an example Annalena Baerbock, the German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, who claimed to be proud of her grandfather for having "fought in Königsberg" during the war.
“There were two types of grandfathers fighting in Königsberg: some fought against fascism, while others represented it. Baerbock’s grandfather represented fascism, and that explains their intense hatred towards us. These are the people who are, once again, driving Germans towards the abyss. Unfortunately, the trends I observe in Germany—the rise in aggression, nationalism, various phobias, and perversions—indicate that they are succeeding in their efforts,” Zakharova added.
