Russian air defence downs 23 Ukrainian drones overnight
Air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 23 fixed-wing drones overnight across the Bryansk, Kaluga, and Kursk regions.
The Russian Ministry of Defence reported that 12 drones were neutralised in the Bryansk region, nine kamikaze drones were shot down in Kaluga, and two were intercepted over Kursk, Caliber.Az reports.
The incident highlights ongoing drone activity in these regions. However, no further information was provided about possible damages or casualties.
Meanwhile, in a televised address on November 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Moscow had tested a new intermediate-range missile in a strike targeting Ukraine. He claimed the weapon could potentially be used against nations aiding Kyiv in its military operations.
The announcement followed Ukraine’s assertion that Russia had launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) at the central city of Dnipro overnight. Local authorities reported that the strike injured two individuals and caused damage to an industrial facility and a rehabilitation centre for people with disabilities.
The Russian strike was described by Putin as a response to Ukrainian attacks earlier in the week on Russian territory, which allegedly used US and British-made missiles.
During his address, Putin warned that the United States' air defence systems would be incapable of intercepting these advanced Russian missiles. He further stated that Russia would issue warnings before conducting similar missile strikes in the future to allow for civilian evacuations.
The incident marks an escalation in the ongoing conflict, raising concerns about the involvement of advanced missile technologies and the increasing intensity of retaliatory strikes between the two nations.
