Media: Ukrainian UAVs target one of Russia’s biggest chemical plants VIDEO

Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) reportedly targeted the Azot chemical production facility, a branch of Russian chemical giant Uralchem, in the city of Berezniki in Russia’s Perm Krai on September 11.

The attack was reported in the morning, with Ukrainian sources saying the facility came under a UAV strike. Details of any damage or casualties were not immediately available, Ukrainian Exilenova+ reports.

The Azot complex covers approximately 140 hectares and includes around 90 production buildings. The facility manufactures ammonia, nitric acid, ammonium nitrate, urea, nitrite-nitrate salts and other nitrogen-based chemical products.

The plant is considered strategically important to Russia’s chemical industry. Some of its products, including concentrated nitric acid, are used in the production of explosives, while ammonia and nitric acid serve as basic inputs for a broad range of nitrogen-based chemical products.

The strike therefore targeted a major Russian chemical production site whose output feeds into industrial supply chains relevant to the country’s defence sector.
