Georgia records more deaths than births in first half of 2026

A total of 17,509 children were born in Georgia in January–June 2026, while 22,224 people died, resulting in a natural population decline of 4,715 people during the first six months of the year, according to the National Statistics Committee.

The statistics indicated that the highest number of newborns was recorded in Tbilisi, with 424 births, followed by Adjara with 330, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.

In 2024, Georgia’s population stood at 3,929,581. According to census data, foreign citizens permanently residing in Georgia accounted for 3.4% of the total population, or 133,857 people.

The citizenship of 0.5% of the population was not identified.

The largest groups of foreign citizens in Georgia are Russian citizens at 37,715, Indian citizens at 23,925, and Ukrainian citizens at 11,542. They are followed by citizens of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Türkiye, Belarus, Iran, Israel, and Jordan.
