Kazakhstan, Türkiye sign readmission agreement

11 September 2026 12:49

Kazakhstan and Türkiye have signed an agreement on the readmission of people who are staying in either country without legal grounds.

Kazakhstan’s Interior Ministry said the sides – Minister of Internal Affairs Yerzhan Sadenov and his Turkish counterpart Mustafa Çiftçi – held bilateral talks on the issue in Astana on the sidelines of a conference of the interior ministers of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS), Caliber.Az reports.

“Kazakhstan and Türkiye are bound by fraternal relations and a high level of trust. The signed agreement is another practical step towards strengthening cooperation between our agencies,” Sadenov noted, summing up the meeting.

The document establishes a clear legal framework for cooperation between Astana and Ankara in the field of migration and regulates the procedure for returning citizens who are staying in either country without legal grounds.

During the talks, the sides also discussed key areas of cooperation between law enforcement agencies, including:

Combating transnational and cybercrime;

Joint efforts to locate wanted criminals and ensure migration security;

Personnel training and establishing direct contacts between relevant departments.
