More than six in ten marriages in Georgia end in divorce, statistics show

A total of 10,006 marriages and 6,095 divorces were registered in Georgia in the first half of 2026, indicating more than six divorces for every 10 marriages, according to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Sakstat).

The statistics showed that, in several regions, the number of divorces exceeded 70% of the number of marriages, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.

The highest rate was recorded in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti, at 78.5%, with 51 divorces registered against 65 marriages. In Tbilisi, 71.2% of marriages ended in divorce, with 2,130 divorces compared with 2,993 marriages.

High rates were also recorded in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti (68.1%), Guria (66.9%) and Imereti (66.0%).

Mid-range figures were recorded in Kakheti (59.7%), Shida Kartli (56.1%) and Kvemo Kartli (51.8%).

The lowest divorce rates were recorded in the south and east of the country. In Samtskhe-Javakheti, divorces accounted for just 32% of marriages, with 140 divorces compared with 437 marriages. The rate was 46.7% in Adjara and 49.7% in Mtskheta-Mtianeti.
