Russia urges US to clarify possible deployment of nuclear weapons in Asia
Russian Deputy Permanent Representative at the UN Anna Evstigneeva has said that Moscow urged Washington to clarify its plans for the deployment of nuclear weapons in Asian countries.
She made these remarks at the UN Security Council’s briefing on the situation on the Korean Peninsula, according to the message posted on the website of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the UN.
“We continue to be concerned about contradictory signals from America's allies in North-East Asia, Tokyo and Seoul, about so-called “enhanced engagement” with Washington in the nuclear sphere,” she noted.
“We demand that the US delegation respond directly to the question about its intentions regarding the possible deployment of Washington's nuclear weapons on the territory of its allies and assistance in developing such weapons of their own,” she added.
