Turkish minister highlights Armenia's interest in Zangezur corridor
Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, has confirmed Armenia's interest in the Zangezur corridor, which would pass through its territory.
Uraloğlu revealed that a tender has been held for the high-standard railroad project connecting Kars, Igdir, Aralyk, and Diluju, spanning 224 kilometers. The project is expected to begin in the early months of next year, Caliber.Az reports citing Turkish media.
“The question now is whether the route will pass through Armenia or Iran,” Uraloğlu explained.
“We recently organized the International Road Federation World Congress in Istanbul, which was attended by the Armenian Minister of Transport, and we discussed the matter with him. I can say that Armenia has expressed both interest and willingness for the route to pass through their country. However, we will take Azerbaijan’s position into account before making any decisions.”
The minister further emphasized that the Zangezur corridor will directly connect Türkiye with Azerbaijan and the broader Turkic world, which is a significant step in enhancing regional connectivity.
Uraloğlu also reassured that the works on the project are progressing rapidly, indicating a promising future for the transport infrastructure linking the two countries and the wider region.
