Media: Private jet belonging to Turkish tycoon crashes in Libya

A private jet belonging to prominent Turkish businessman Hamdi Akın crashed while landing at Misrata Airport in Libya.

Akın is the founder and chairman of the board of Akfen Holding, one of Türkiye’s largest conglomerates. Turkish media outlets reported that the two pilots and a cabin crew member on board survived the crash.

The aircraft reportedly veered off the runway while landing at Misrata Airport and subsequently caught fire. The crew members were rescued by airport emergency response teams and taken to hospital.

The aircraft was a Cessna Citation Latitude business jet registered as TC-AKF. It departed Istanbul Atatürk Airport at around 5:45 a.m. on September 14 and was reportedly heading to Libya to pick up passengers.

The cause of the accident has not yet been disclosed, while authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, which has also led to the suspension of flights.
