Scholz: Germany rejects ceasefire leading to Ukraine's capitulation
During a pivotal session in the Bundestag, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reinforced Germany's stance on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, asserting that Germany cannot support a ceasefire that would result in Kyiv's capitulation.
Addressing concerns about Germany's potential involvement in the conflict, Chancellor Scholz assured, "Yes, I give this guarantee. I stand for this as Chancellor," Caliber.Az reports via German media.
The Chancellor's remarks underscored Germany's unwavering position against any ceasefire that could lead to Ukraine's surrender. "In my opinion, a ceasefire that aims for Ukraine's capitulation is one that we cannot support from Germany," emphasized Scholz, highlighting the principled approach Germany maintains in international diplomacy.
Scholz also commented on Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent proposal for peace talks conditional on Ukraine withdrawing its military from several key regions such as Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv.
"This demonstrates how cynically they think and that the Russian president does not at all intend to end his aggressive war," Scholz remarked, pointing to Putin's tactics in the conflict.
"We will not tolerate that," Chancellor Scholz concluded firmly, signalling Germany's resolute stance against any resolution that compromises Ukraine's sovereignty or security.
