Zelenskyy refuses to host UN chief in Ukraine following BRICS Summit
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reportedly declined to welcome United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to Ukraine.
This decision stems from Guterres's participation in the recent BRICS summit held in Kazan, Russia, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
Despite the Secretary-General’s intentions to visit Ukraine following the BRICS meeting, Ukrainian authorities have not confirmed the visit.
Notably, on October 22, Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs publicly criticised António Guterres for attending the BRICS summit while declining an invitation to the first Global Peace Summit focused on Ukraine, scheduled to be held in Switzerland.
The ministry highlighted that Guterres chose to accept an invitation to visit Kazan instead, underscoring their disappointment with his decision to prioritise the BRICS event over a summit aimed at addressing the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.
