Azerbaijan achieves return of villages seized by Armenia
New stage of bolstering nation’s sovereignty
POLITICS 19 April 2024 - 18:12
The 8th meeting of the State Commission on the Delimitation of the State Border between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia and the Commission on the Delimitation of the State Border and Border Security between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan was held on April 19 at the conditional border under the chairmanship of Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev and his Armenian counterpart Mher Grigoryan.
What do today's agreements between the parties mean?
Without a single shot being fired, the return to Azerbaijani control of the non-enclave villages of Gazakh district, which had been under Armenian occupation for more than 30 years, was ensured;
President Aliyev initiated the important issue of returning border villages back in 2020. Since then, active work has been underway in this regard. Today we are witnessing the logical completion of this large-scale process reflecting the national interests of Azerbaijan;
This step was the commencement of the process of border delimitation, and the first steps were taken precisely in the Gazakh district. Azerbaijan insisted on starting delimitation from this very section, emphasizing its strategic importance;
The European Union, the United States and a number of Western countries tried to influence the delimitation process, but Azerbaijan managed to prevent their interference. As a result, Azerbaijan and Armenia found a common language and proved that they are capable of addressing issues independently. Thus, the less the so-called Western "peacemakers" interfere in the Azerbaijan-Armenia dialogue, the sooner peace and prosperity will come to the South Caucasus;
This event was a new link in a chain of important victories, including the final assertion of Azerbaijan's sovereignty over Karabakh after September 2023 and the withdrawal of the Russian peacekeeping contingent from the country's territory. Now the bloodless return of control over four Azerbaijani villages is added to this list. Once again, we are witnessing that all the initiatives planned by President Aliyev are being implemented, fully reflecting the interests of the country;
The propaganda spread by France and a number of other Western countries that Azerbaijan was allegedly preparing an attack on Armenia and had military ambitions on the territory of that country has been completely refuted. These accusations were nothing more than part of a dirty game and false propaganda campaign aimed against Azerbaijan and had no relation to reality.
And in conclusion, we can confidently describe this as another brilliant victory for Azerbaijan and the country’s President Ilham Aliyev.
