Western Azerbaijan Community condemns European Parliament’s resolution

The Western Azerbaijan Community condemns the European Parliament’s resolution calling on the EU to impose sanctions against Azerbaijan.

“The European Parliament’s resolution adopted on April 25 is a biased act full of slander. Why did not the European Parliament remember human rights when Armenia held the Azerbaijani territory under occupation for 30 years, subjected hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis to ethnic cleansing and killed about 30,000 people? Why is the European Parliament turning a blind eye to Armenia which does not allow 300,000 Azerbaijanis expelled from their native lands to return homes and ignores the Western Azerbaijan Community’s appeal for holding a dialogue? Caliber.Az reports citing the Western Azerbaijan Community’s statement.

According to the message, all this proves that the real reason for the recent steps of the European Parliament is the inability to come to terms that Azerbaijan has restored its territorial integrity, rather than human rights. If the European Parliament wanted to protect human rights through sanctions, it should have tried to impose sanctions against Armenia, which violated the fundamental rights of more than a million Azerbaijanis.

“The Western Azerbaijan Community urges the European Parliament to abandon discriminatory policy, the steps that aggravate the regional situation, the attempts to abuse high values such as human rights, and respect the right of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia to return there,” the message says.
