UN chief urges restraint following Israeli airstrikes on Hudaydah

21 July 2024 14:12

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed deep concern over the recent Israeli airstrikes on Hudaydah, Yemen.

The strikes on July 20 targeted the port city, resulting in at least three deaths and approximately 80 injuries, according to Caliber.Az, which cites foreign media reporting on Guterres’ statement.

The attacks also caused significant damage to civilian infrastructure, including oil tanks and the city power plant.

Guterres' statement emphasized the need for all parties involved to avoid actions that could harm civilians and further escalate the situation. The Secretary-General has called for maximum restraint to prevent additional harm and damage in the region.

Earlier on July 19, an explosion occurred in downtown Tel Aviv, attributed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to the fall of an aerial target. The Houthi movement in Yemen claimed responsibility for this incident, stating it was carried out with an advanced drone capable of penetrating air defenses.
