Media: US can't shield Israel against Iran "forever"
The US administration has informed Israeli leadership that American aircraft carriers will not be able to remain in the region permanently to monitor Iran's actions.
According to the Israeli TV channel, the message indicated that the US is also "against [the potential] dismissal of Israel's Defence Minister Yoav Gallant," despite his conflict with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Caliber.Az reports.
The message was described as "polite but clear." Additionally, concerning the risk of an attack from Iran and a potential large-scale war in the region, the US stated that at some point, the level of escalation must be reduced, as "aircraft carriers cannot stay in the region indefinitely.
"Notably, a standoff between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant over the Gaza conflict is the latest in a series of clashes that have strained the concept of cabinet unity over the past 18 months.
On September 2, Netanyahu stated that the two could collaborate "as long as there is trust", but emphasised that all ministers must adhere to cabinet decisions. "That is the main issue currently being tested," he said at a press conference. He rejected calls from Gallant and others in the security establishment to consider withdrawing Israeli troops from the southern border area of the Gaza Strip as part of a ceasefire agreement with Hamas.
