Japan responds to Caliber.Az on Armenian delegation visit No arms supply discussions
Japan has officially responded to a recent report by Caliber.Az regarding the visit of an Armenian military delegation to the country, confirming the delegation's presence but clarifying that there were no discussions on arms supplies.
In a statement, the Japanese Embassy in Baku acknowledged that Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan visited Tokyo, but emphasized that there were no conversations about supplying weapons to Armenia.
We present the Japanese Embassy’s response in its entirety:
“First of all, we confirm receipt of your letter. Regarding the article by Caliber.Az on September 12: the Embassy of Japan is not aware of the visit of Armenian Defence Minister Suren Papikian to Japan, but we are aware of the visit of Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoyian to Tokyo. The fact is that there were no discussions regarding the supply of weapons from Japan to Armenia.”
Original report by Caliber.Az did not specify that it was the Armenian Defence Minister making the visit but rather an Armenian delegation seeking negotiations on arms procurement. The Japanese Embassy's statement reaffirms the visit of Grigoryan and underscores the absence of discussions on military supplies. Given the specifics of Grigoryan's activities, it would be naive to believe that he came to Japan to learn the art of cooking sushi.
The response from the South Korean Embassy in Azerbaijan is still pending.
