Baku, Sofia forge closer ties on energy security, regional stability
On June 30, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Bulgaria’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Elena Shekerletova, in Baku to discuss the further development of strategic ties between the two nations.
The meeting focused on a broad range of areas, including trade and economic cooperation, cultural and humanitarian exchange, energy security, green energy, and regional and international security, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Foreign Ministry.
Both sides highlighted the importance of high-level visits and political dialogue in deepening their strategic partnership. The role of the joint commission on trade, economic and scientific-technical cooperation was also noted as a key platform for advancing bilateral initiatives.
The two officials stressed that joint energy projects remain crucial for European energy security. They agreed on the need to expand collaboration in this sphere and explored opportunities for new green energy ventures.
Minister Bayramov also briefed Shekerletova on the post-conflict situation in the South Caucasus, ongoing reconstruction and development efforts in territories liberated from occupation, and Azerbaijan’s ongoing work to address the threat of landmines. He also outlined Baku’s approach to normalising relations with Armenia.
In addition to the bilateral meeting, political consultations were held between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Bulgaria. The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev, while Elena Shekerletova headed the Bulgarian side.
