Azerbaijan condoles with Switzerland after Crans-Montana tragedy
Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed condolences to Switzerland after the Crans-Montana ski resort explosion that claimed multiple lives and injured many.
In a post on the ministry’s official X page, Azerbaijan stated:
“We are deeply saddened by the news of the tragic fire in Crans-Montana, which claimed many lives and caused injuries. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the people of Switzerland."
"Our thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” the statement reads.
Aykhan Hajizada, head of the press service department at Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that, there has been no information so far on whether any Azerbaijani citizens were among the dead or injured in the explosion.
A devastating explosion ripped through a packed bar during New Year’s Eve festivities at the Crans‑Montana ski resort in southwestern Switzerland, killing dozens and injuring many more, Swiss police reported on January 1.
Around 100 people were injured in the blast at the Le Constellation bar, with authorities—cited via the Italian Foreign Ministry—reporting approximately 40 fatalities, though officials described the death toll more generally as “tens.”
Emergency teams dispatched helicopters and ambulances to aid the victims, many of whom sustained severe burns. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
