Azerbaijan’s FM says another meeting with Armenian counterpart possible

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has not ruled out another meeting with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan in the near future, while stressing that contacts between the two countries’ foreign ministries remain regular.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the high-level segment of the Fourth Climate Week (CW4) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku, Bayramov recalled that his latest meeting with Mirzoyan took place in Bishkek, where the two sides agreed on the need to continue bilateral contacts, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

“Our last meeting took place in Bishkek. It was there that we agreed on the need to continue bilateral meetings,” Bayramov said.

He added that the delimitation process remains among the issues discussed regularly between the two countries.

“Azerbaijan and Armenia are working on this issue at the level of commissions. Previously, an agreement was reached and clarified on carrying out the overall delimitation from north to south. Specific details are discussed as necessary,” the foreign minister noted.

Bayramov also said that Azerbaijan has received various signals from Armenia regarding the holding of a referendum and constitutional amendments, but stressed that Baku’s position remains unchanged: constitutional amendments are necessary for the signing of a peace agreement.

The FM recalled that under the joint statement signed in Washington in August 2025, the necessary steps to complete the process must be taken after the peace agreement is initialled.

“One of them is holding a referendum in Armenia and making amendments to the constitution. We are receiving various signals from Armenia on this issue. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is also making new statements regarding his plans. Our position remains unchanged. These steps are necessary for signing the peace agreement,” the minister stressed.

He also noted that Azerbaijan, for its part, has taken important steps to advance the peace process with Armenia.

Turning to the TRIPP project (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity), Bayramov noted that the main negotiations are being conducted between the United States and Armenia, but emphasised that the project cannot be implemented without Azerbaijan’s participation.

“The main negotiations on TRIPP are being conducted between the United States and Armenia, and this is natural. At the same time, our US partners regularly inform Azerbaijan, since the implementation of the project is impossible without our country’s participation. According to the information provided to us, the process is progressing successfully,” Bayramov said.

According to the minister, the start of the process had previously been expected by the end of this year, but the latest information indicates that it is now planned for 2027.

“We consider this project very important for Azerbaijan, Armenia and the entire region, as well as for international partnership,” he stressed.

Bayramov also said that Azerbaijan has already begun restoring railway lines in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

According to him, there are international partners interested in participating in the project, while Azerbaijan is independently taking the necessary steps to implement it.

Addressing the holding of Climate Week in Baku, Bayramov said the event is a sign of trust in Azerbaijan and should also be viewed as a continuation of the legacy of COP29.

He emphasised that more than 2,700 people from 140 countries are participating in Baku Climate Week, which will feature more than 60 events covering a wide range of topics.

The minister also noted that Azerbaijan is closely cooperating with Türkiye in connection with the organisation of COP31 in Antalya.

“Azerbaijan will continue this support,” he added.
