Azerbaijan elected coordinator of Codex Alimentarius Commission for European region PHOTO

Azerbaijan has been elected coordinator of the Codex Alimentarius Commission for the European Region, Azerbaijan’s Food Safety Agency (AFSA) has said.

The agency outlined that the decision was made at the 34th session of the Codex Coordinating Committee for Europe, held in Berlin, Germany, under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

As Germany’s term as coordinator has come to an end, Azerbaijan was proposed for the role for the upcoming period. Baku’s nomination was unanimously approved by all 52 member states of the committee.

Azerbaijan will assume its duties as coordinator from the next session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission.

One of Azerbaijan’s main tasks as coordinator will be to lead the committee and help coordinate cooperation among countries in the European Region on the work of the Codex Alimentarius Commission and the implementation of international food safety standards.
