EU Council delegation set to visit Azerbaijan after Yerevan talks

A delegation from the European Union Council’s Working Party on Eastern Europe and Central Asia (COEST) plans to visit Azerbaijan following its recent trip to Armenia, according to the Azerbaijani news agency Report, citing sources within EU institutions.

According to the sources, the visit is intended to discuss EU-Azerbaijan relations and regional issues as part of the European Union’s regular dialogue and cooperation with regional partners.

The COEST delegation recently visited Armenia, where it held meetings with Armenian officials on a range of issues related to the Armenia-EU agenda. Discussions covered the implementation of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), the Strategic Partnership Agenda, security cooperation and the development of transport connectivity.

During the meetings, the Armenian side also presented steps aimed at institutionalising peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as opportunities for regional cooperation arising from the establishment of peace in the South Caucasus.

COEST is responsible for preparing and coordinating the work of the EU Council on relations with Eastern European and Central Asian countries, including Armenia and Azerbaijan. The working party also helps formulate the Council’s positions on political issues concerning these states.
