Azerbaijan-Slovakia partnership rises to highest level, top lawmaker says

Relations between Azerbaijan and Slovakia have rapidly advanced to the highest level of strategic partnership, driven by the political will of the two countries’ leaders and mutual support, Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said.

Speaker Gafarova made the remarks at an event marking Constitution Day and Armed Forces Day of Slovakia, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

Gafarova said bilateral relations are rooted in friendship, mutual respect and trust, noting that cooperation between the two countries has gained significant momentum in recent years.

She highlighted Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s official visit to Slovakia in December 2025, as well as reciprocal visits by Slovak President Peter Pellegrini and Prime Minister Robert Fico to Azerbaijan, saying the high-level exchanges had provided fresh impetus to bilateral ties.

According to Gafarova, common interests and mutual support are among the defining features of the Azerbaijan-Slovakia strategic partnership.

She noted that bilateral cooperation is expanding across a broad range of areas, including trade, investment, energy, military-technical cooperation, education and parliamentary ties.

Gafarova added that new initiatives would further broaden and deepen cooperation between Azerbaijan and Slovakia.

Turning to practical cooperation, Gafarova also highlighted the involvement of Slovak companies in the reconstruction of Azerbaijan’s territories liberated from occupation, describing it as an important expression of the friendship between the two countries.

“We are pleased with the participation of Slovak companies in the reconstruction of our lands liberated from occupation, including the implementation of the Smart Village project in Bashgarvand. This is an important indicator of the sincere friendship between our countries,” she said.

Gafarova added that a school to be established with the support of the leaders of the two countries would become another symbol of Azerbaijan-Slovakia friendship.

She stressed that ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral ties, together with shared approaches and common goals, would create further opportunities to expand cooperation between Baku and Bratislava.
