Media: Trump to skip funeral of late Norwegian King Harald V

US President Donald Trump will not attend the funeral of Norway’s late King Harald V, NRK has learnt.

According to the report, the United States will be represented at a lower level than expected. It remains unknown who the White House will send to the ceremony on September 9. NRK noted that then-US Vice President Dan Quayle attended the funeral of King Olav V in 1991.

Some Norwegian media outlets believe the United States could be represented by First Lady Melania Trump. Confirmed guests include members of European royal families, as well as representatives of the royal families of Jordan and Japan, heads of state and government, and ministers from several countries, primarily European ones.

Norwegian King Harald V, 89, died on August 28, nine days after being hospitalised with an infection and complications from hemolytic anaemia. A member of the Glücksburg dynasty, he had been on the throne since 1991. The crown passed to his 53-year-old son Haakon, who took the regnal name Haakon VIII.
