Slovakia names Azerbaijani native as ambassador to Baku
Elchin Gasimov, a native of Azerbaijan’s Kalbajar district, has been officially appointed as the Slovak ambassador to Azerbaijan.
President of Slovakia Peter Pellegrini formally received the credentials of eight newly appointed ambassadors from Europe, Africa, and Asia during a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Bratislava, Caliber.Az reports, citing Slovak media.
Among the distinguished diplomats was Elchin Gasimov, whose appointment to Baku underscores the strengthening ties between Slovakia and Azerbaijan. Gasimov’s unique background as a native of Kalbajar—a region with historical and geopolitical significance—adds a notable dimension to his ambassadorial role.
The Embassy of Slovakia to Azerbaijan started its activity last October.
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry noted that the opening of the Slovak Embassy to Azerbaijan will give impetus to the expansion and promotion of cooperation and friendship between the two countries.
