Azerbaijan’s deputy PM appointed vice-president at key UN finance conference
Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov has been elected Vice-President of the United Nations’ 4th Global Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4), which began in Seville, Spain, on June 30.
Sharifov headed the Azerbaijani delegation at the international event on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The delegation also includes COP29 President and Azerbaijan’s Presidential Climate Envoy, Mukhtar Babaev, alongside other senior officials.
On the conference’s first working day, elections were held for the President and other leadership positions, with Sharifov appointed as one of the Vice-Presidents of FFD4.
Held once every ten years, the UN conference serves as a global platform to mobilise and coordinate financial resources, policies, and international cooperation to support sustainable development goals.
The forum is attended by representatives from 164 countries and 49 international organisations.
