Friendship Society: Atrocities in Russia ignite outrage among Azerbaijan’s allies
President of the Azerbaijan-Cyprus Friendship Society Orhan Hasanoglu has said that atrocities committed against Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg, Russia, have sparked widespread outrage and condemnation among Azerbaijan’s allies.
"The Society strongly condemns the recent inhumane acts against Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg characterising them as racist and fascist attacks aimed at individuals solely because of their national identity," he said, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“These atrocities have resonated not only in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus but also across the wider Turkic community and supporters of Azerbaijan worldwide,” he noted.
“We view this incident not merely as an isolated case of individual violence but as a manifestation of the growing anti-Turkic and anti-Azerbaijani rhetoric in Russia, as well as the racist mindset entrenched within state institutions. The fact that this violence is perpetrated by state forces only exacerbates the gravity of the situation,” Hasanoglu said.
He added that silence in the face of such inhumane behavior is unacceptable and reaffirmed solidarity with the Azerbaijani people and government.
“The people and government of Azerbaijan are not alone in confronting this injustice. We firmly stand with Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani people,” he added.
The incident occurred on the morning of June 27, when Russia’s Federal Security Service raided the houses of Azerbaijani residents in Yekaterinburg. Among those killed were two brothers of prominent Azerbaijani journalist Seyfaddin Huseynli. Several others sustained injuries during the operation.
Following the raid, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry called for a comprehensive investigation and demanded that those responsible must be held accountable. On June 28, the Russian chargé d’affaires was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, where officials issued a formal protest against the violent actions.
