US envoy: Reciprocal Azerbaijan-Armenia visits support durable South Caucasus peace

The United States views reciprocal visits by Azerbaijani and Armenian representatives as part of efforts to establish durable peace in the South Caucasus, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Azerbaijan Amy Carlon said.

"I already visited Yerevan a few weeks ago, and such exchanges are nothing unusual for us. They are part of our process to help establish durable peace in the South Caucasus. These were reciprocal visits we carried out," Carlon told Report during a visit to Karabakh as part of a delegation of foreign diplomats.

Carlon said such exchanges were a normal part of Washington’s broader engagement with both countries. She noted that she had visited Yerevan several weeks earlier, describing the trips as reciprocal visits aimed at supporting the peace process.

The U.S. diplomat said Washington believes the situation in the South Caucasus is moving in the right direction and remains committed to supporting lasting peace and regional prosperity.

She pointed to progress made since the August 8, 2025 meeting in Washington involving U.S. President Donald Trump, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

“This progress achieved during this period truly pleases us. Therefore, we unequivocally assess the situation in the South Caucasus as developing in the right direction,” Carlon said.

She added that the United States expects reciprocal visits between Azerbaijani and Armenian representatives to continue as part of efforts to consolidate peace.

Beyond diplomacy, Carlon said Washington is continuing to strengthen cooperation with Azerbaijan under the Strategic Partnership Charter. Key areas include regional connectivity, economic investment, artificial intelligence and data centres, as well as defence and security cooperation.

She specifically highlighted the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) as an important connectivity initiative.

Carlon also announced that the United States plans to bring companies that have not previously participated in the Azerbaijan International Defence Exhibition (ADEX) to this year’s event in Baku.

“This year we will bring US companies that have not taken part in ADEX before. We are pleased to have the opportunity to showcase US's achievements in military technology and the defence industry,” she said.

The diplomat said Washington was looking forward to participating in ADEX 2026, while emphasising that U.S.-Azerbaijan cooperation extends beyond defence to economic and technological development.
