APA: Ex Azerbaijani consul general in St Petersburg accused of gold smuggling

Azerbaijan’s former consul general in St Petersburg, Sultan Gasimov, has been accused of smuggling gold on a large scale, according to APA.
The criminal case was investigated by the prosecutor’s office, which brought charges against Gasimov under the relevant articles of Azerbaijan’s Criminal Code.
The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the case materials have been sent to court. The case is expected to be heard soon by the Baku Court of Serious Crimes.
Gasimov was appointed Azerbaijan’s first consul general in Yekaterinburg, Russia, in 2009 and was recalled from the post in 2016.
On May 3, 2016, he was appointed consul general in St Petersburg. He was recalled from the position on October 21, 2024.
